Your books stay on your computer
This covers the Wattlebooks app, its optional phone app and this website. Wattlebooks is made by Tim Downey. It has no ads or analytics, and your information is never sold.
Last updated 1 October 2026.
The desktop app
Wattlebooks keeps your business details, clients, invoices, quotes, payments, expenses and receipts in a folder on your own computer. There's no Wattlebooks account, and the app doesn't send usage data or crash reports. It only goes online when you ask it to:
- Check for updates asks GitHub for the latest version number.
- Settings > Phone signs you in to the phone app, described below.
- Links you click open in your browser.
When you email an invoice, it goes through your own mail app. Receipt scanning uses the text reader built into Windows, so the receipt stays on your computer. If you keep your data folder in OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive, that service's own privacy terms cover it.
The phone app
The phone app is an optional free pilot. None of this happens unless you sign in under Settings > Phone. Once you do, the following is kept online so your phone can see it:
- your email address, used to sign in with a one-time code
- your business name, currency and tax rate
- client names and email addresses
- open and recently paid invoices: the number, client, dates, amounts and status
- receipt photos, notes and quick invoices you send from your phone, until your computer collects them
Each login can only read its own data. Photos are deleted from the cloud as soon as your computer has them. It's protected by the database's access rules rather than end-to-end encryption, so the developer who runs the database could see it. Your phone keeps a copy of who owes you, and holds receipts and quick invoices until it has signal.
This website
- It's hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub logs visitors' IP addresses for security, under GitHub's privacy statement.
- Its fonts come from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them.
- It sets no cookies of its own and has no analytics or ads.
- The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. First, Cloudflare Turnstile checks you're a person, which reads some details from your browser. Your message then goes through a Cloudflare Worker and is emailed to Wattlebooks by Resend. It's only used to reply to you.

Deleting your data
- Desktop app: delete its data folder, which still has the app's old name. That's
%LOCALAPPDATA%\InvoiceDeskon Windows, orDocuments\InvoiceDeskif you installed it from the Microsoft Store. On a Mac it's~/Library/Application Support/InvoiceDeskand on Linux~/.local/share/InvoiceDesk. If you moved it, Settings > Your data > Open data folder takes you there. Uninstalling the app doesn't delete this folder, so your books are still there if you reinstall. - Phone app: in Settings > Phone, choose Sign out and tick "Also remove my invoices, clients and waiting photos from the cloud". To remove your sign-in email too, ask through the contact form.
- Messages you sent: ask through the contact form and they'll be deleted.
